First: This is a big week. This is the week that the board decides on the cuts. The board meeting is on Wednesday night at 7 PM in the Lomitas Cafeteria. This is an open meeting so anyone can go. Please make sure our VETA members know the particulars and that they may attend if they choose to do so.
Second: I will have paperwork for all of those members who may receive RIF (layoff -- pink slips) after the 24th. It is my understanding that the district will do this in person similar to before so please have the conversation with your staff as to how they want to handle this. Some staff's choose to take the classes of those involved if they felt they could not return to the classroom. We will be scheduling a meeting shortly to walk them through the paperwork so that they may ensure they get their hearings and to assist in anything else they need. I am currently putting together the paperwork and a check list information sheet for them. Deadlines are strict and unbending so they need to let me know the minute they get the RIF notice. Tell them to watch for the meeting date for the assistance. Thank you.
Third: March 2 Read Across America ----- don't forget to read that day
Fourth: March Forth on March 4 --
If you are eager..... listen on Feb. 28th to Power 106 where I and a panel will be on the radio discussing this day and talking to callers on the issue of education funding... Oh by the way it is at 7AM for 1 hour.
ALSO:
please watch for the "VESD all" email I am sending tomorrow to everyone and make sure you have discussed it with your principal. Suffice it to say that there are 5 items to know.....
1. Wear black that day
2. All employees will be out on the streets to hand out flyers to our parents in the morning
3. Answer questions that they ask (I will send out talking points shortly) do NOT start the conversation but you may answer questions.... do NOT hand out flyers to kids or have classroom conversations with kids
4. Watch for the disaster drill which will be moved to this day
5. Feel free to put up "burma shave" type signs along the areas by the street where your parents come in and leave your parking lots. if you choose to do this, make them informative about how your school will be different next year how many classroom teachers will be gone, SAMS, health clerks, FACTUAL not inflamatory and directed at the STATE not the district.... we want parents calling and driving their legislators crazy... the flyers will have a number on it that will direct them to their legislator.... also we want them to be informed voters.... this is about what the state is doing to us NOT whats internal to the Cabinet or Board.... This is an Ed Coaltion project not CTA...... we, the employees of VESD are educating on where the State of California priorities are misplaced.
